Comme des Garcons
For a Fashion Sketching Class, Laura needed to design a collection as if she was designing for Comme deGarçons. Rei Kawakubo is known for creating big silhouettes and never having "similar" collections. Laura decided to collage instead of using traditional media. The word misplaced was her main inspiration due to the feeling she had when she looked at archives of Kawakubo. With misplaced now on her mind, she decided to cut, paste and rotate objects until it made no sense.
"I do not think, lets make something ‘shapeless’ now! Something creative comes about by mixing variety of materials and also through unexpected events. It is more like unconscious choosing rather that consciously searching for something"
After going through Rei Kawakubo Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between I had the chance to understand Rei Kawakub asthetic, design process and how she experiments fashion. Rei Kawakub once said
"I have no inspiration. I never do. I am maybe triggered by something somewhere sometime, but I am not conscious of it. I start out without any theme and I grope in the dark as I proceed."
